Theatre Holiday Workshops
Hive offers Performing Arts workshops to suit a range of interests and ages 5-15, every school holidays. For non-members, its the perfect opportunity to trial a creative learning program at Hive. All workshops are held at our studio in Charlestown, Newcastle.
‘Wizard of Oz’ Musical in a Week
Join the Hive Musical Theatre Performers for a fun filled week in the Land of Oz. We will be following the Yellow Brick Road to the Warners Bay Theatre for a week filled with high energy performance workshops and activities. At the end of the week the students will get to showcase their talents with a 30 minute Wizard of Oz Musical Theatre concert for families to enjoy.
This workshop is designed to grow students’ skills in singing, acting and performance and is perfectly suited to students who have a high interest in performing in musicals.
Check out what’s in store:
Each day young performers will
- learn the choreography to a new song – building up to 5 songs for the end of week show.
- Participate in vocal workshops, including two options:
a) solo voice workshop option (for those interested), or
b) group voice workshops - Learn and improve your acting skills for musical theatre shows, through character games, musical scenes and short scripts
Over the week, students will also enjoy a costume design and lighting design workshop, contributing their ideas to our end of week performance.
No experience necessary. Suitable for 7-16 yrs (students will work in small groups by age).

3 days Wednesday to Friday $280
All students will perform in the Friday concert, however, students who attend the full week will be featured in more songs.
‘Olivia Rodrigo’ Full Day Singing & Musical Theatre Workshop
With a specific focus on Pop singing and stage presence, our students will have the chance to learn one of Olivia’s hits, ‘Good For You’, and to sing it like a true pop star. They will also get to channel their inner pop diva to by hitting the runway for their adoring fans. Along with a polymer clay jewellery bar and lots of Olivia Rodrigo themed fun this is the perfect workshop for any future pop stars.
No experience necessary. Suitable for 7-10 yrs & 11-15 yrs.

‘Frozen’ Musical Theatre Workshop
Things are about to get chilly at Hive these school holidays at this half day Musical Theatre workshop. Kids will learn the lyrics and choreography to the songs ‘Let it Go’ and ‘First Time in Forever’ from the Disney favourite, ‘Frozen’.
No experience necessary. Suitable for 4-9 yrs. Students will be split by age group into two classrooms. If you’re coming with friends or family, simply check in together when you arrive to stay in the same class group.

‘Wicked’ Musical Theatre Workshop
The Emerald City awaits for a fun-filled day of singing and dancing in this half day Musical Theatre workshop. Kids will learn the lyrics and choreography to the songs ‘One Short Day’ and ‘Defying Gravity’ from the Broadway hit, ‘Wicked’.
No experience necessary. Suitable for 7-10 yrs & 11-15 yrs.

Creative Kids Vouchers: submit your voucher BEFORE enroling.
Cancellation Policy:
Please choose carefully. Our workshop art equipment is pre-purchased and staff are booked in more than 6 weeks prior to workshops starting. Due to these factors, the following cancellation policy applies:
- Cancellations received more than 2 weeks prior to the workshop date: 85% refund
- Cancellations received less than 2 weeks prior to the workshop date: no refund unless the exceptions below are met.
- Exceptions #1 – If you request to cancel less than 2 weeks prior to your workshop: We will attempt to sell your spot to another client. We keep waitlists for all workshops once they are fully booked. If we can sell your spot, you will be offered an 85% refund or credit to your Hive account for use with future holiday workshops.
- Exceptions #2 – Illness: If your child is sick your spot will be cancelled and you will be offered an exchange for another workshop within the same holiday period. If you are unable to reschedule to another workshop, an 85% credit will be issued to your Hive account for use in future Holiday workshops upon receipt of a doctors certificate. (this credit does not apply to term classes).
Workshop Exchanges:
You can exchange your booked workshop for any other workshop of the same value within the same holiday period wherever vacancies exist. Exchanges must be made by contacting our office and receiving confirmation from them at least 2 days prior to your booking.
Workshop information:
Full Day Bookings – Students who are booked into both the morning and afternoon sessions will be supervised between workshops while they eat lunch.
What to Bring:
Single workshop: a snack and a waterbottle.
Full day: 2 snacks, waterbottle and a packed lunch
Allergies / Anaphylaxis:
Notify our staff at sign in, bring an epi-pen and any medications.
Late Fees:
If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for pickup your account will be charged $10 per 15 minutes in order to cover the cost of our staff who need to stay back with your child.
