Major Productions
Hive’s major productions are a great experience for students who want a full theatre production experience from auditioning to scripted roles, costuming, music, choreography and multiple performances. They require greater commitment from students as we prepare months in advance to deliver a high quality production, attracting family, friends and members of the local community.
Moana Jr
Disney’s Moana JR. is a 60-minute musical adaptation of the 2016 Disney animated film, bringing the adventures of Moana and her village of Motunui to life onstage. Moana JR. features all the beloved songs from the film, written by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, including “How Far I’ll Go,”“Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.”
This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana JR. is sure to bring out the hero within each of us.
CASTING
At Hive we pride ourselves on making youth theatre accessible to students of all ages and commitment levels. There will be THREE casts for our production of Moana;

SENIOR CAST
• For performers age 10 – 16 years
• Production is a full 1 hour Musical Theatre Show with costumes in a professional theatre with full lighting and audio.
• Entry requirements: Entry by audition for all roles. Students must also be enrolled in Hive Drama or Musical theatre classes or dance training or private voice tuition elsewhere.
• Rehearsals: Wednesday evenings 1.5 – 2 hours weekly throughout term 1 & 2 at 6pm – 7:30pm
• Fees: Tuition – $300* per term. Performance fee – $200 per student.
JUNIOR CAST
- For performers age 7-12 years
Production is a full 1 hour Musical Theatre Show with costumes in a professional theatre with full lighting and audio. - Entry requirements: Entry by audition for all roles. Students must also be enrolled in Hive Drama or Musical theatre classes or dance training or private voice tuition elsewhere.
- Rehearsals: Wednesday evenings 1.5 hours weekly throughout term 1 & 2
- Fees: Tuition – $300* per term. Performance fee – $200 per student.
MINI’S CAST
• For performers age 5-7 years
• Production is a Moana Showcase: children will perform ensemble and small group songs with costume, song and dance.
• Students gain a full theatre performance experience with costumes in a professional theatre with lighting and audio.
• Entry by application. No auditions necessary.
• Commitment: 1 hour weekly rehearsals for 2 terms. Some home practice. Cancellations & class changes are not permitted during the 2 term rehearsal for this show.
• Fees: Tuition – $250* per term. Performance fee – $100 per student.

Peter Pan Pantomime (Drama Production)
audition times will be sent to you. Students must be enrolled in a Hive drama class alongside being a part of this cast.
Performance Fee: $180/student (Plus standard weekly rehearsal tuition fees)
Closing Date for Applications: Friday July 6
Tickets: $45 / seat. Sales open in October
Junior Theatre Festival
** Open to students in the Little Mermaid Cast only**
Open to all students who were enrolled in ‘The Little Mermaid Jr’ cast, The Junior Theatre Festival weekend is a National
performing arts event held in Newcastle and is specifically for school age student performers who have performed in a Junior
Musical this year. Groups from all over NSW and beyond travel here to attend the Festival.
What happens at the festival?
Each group prepares and performs a 15 minute mini musical from their junior musical. The weekend also includes:
- Workshops for students with professional actors and performers
- Exclusive viewings of new Broadway JR. musicals that have not yet been released
- Presentations from celebrity actors
- Closing Ceremony which includes the awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of every student.
This experience builds a lot of interest, excitement, and confidence in acting for students and is a highlight of the performing year.
All students who are enrolled in the ‘Little Mermaid Jr’ cast at Hive are encouraged to join, however this is an optional event. If you
are interested in your child participating, please read the dates and costs below.
Venue: Civic Theatre
Cost: $360/student includes each student’s Festival admisission fee, tuition fees and the cost for staff to look after students at the festival.

Term Performances
Our term class performances are an opportunity for our enrolled students to showcase what they have been working on in class each week. We host multiple showcases a year for family and friends to attend, and share in the experience of live youth theatre on a professional stage setting.
Roald Dahl’s
Whimsical World
Prepare to step into the enchanting world of “Roald Dahl’s Whimsical World: Pure Imagination Extravaganza,” a tailor-made performance for young talents aged 5-16. Immerse yourself in the enchanting tales and beloved characters crafted by Roald Dahl, brought to vivid life by our exceptionally gifted performers. From the exploits of the enigmatic Willy Wonka to the daring escapades of James and his Giant Peach, each scene and song pays homage to Dahl’s enduring legacy as a master storyteller. Under the guidance of committed instructors, this showcase guarantees an evening of entertainment that will leave you beaming, chuckling, and deeply moved by the extraordinary narratives of Roald Dahl. Join us for an enchanting experience that champions the extraordinary synergy of imagination and performance!

Rehearsal Commitment:
- In class: students are expected to attend every lesson unless sick.
- Extra required rehearsals: Dress Rehearsal 27th September, 2024
