Age Groups

Kindy Drama

Drama for our Kindergarten kids is a fun and engaging program which has been developed in order to allow students a space to be creative whilst helping them to navigate through the social and emotional expectations that they are often faced with in their first year of school. Each term will have a fun, age appropriate theme which will provide them with the opportunity to learn the fundemental skills that set the foundations for understanding and applying themselves to the craft of drama. Students will be provided with a safe and judgement free space and supported on their individual journey whether they are introverted or extroverted… or anywhere in between! They will learn that taking risks will always be supported and guided in their drama class.

Timetable

Years 1-2, 3-4 & 5-6

For our primary age students our drama team will provide the opportunities to really discover and explore the true meaning of dramatic play. Students will be supported to experiment with role-play as well as developing important social skills (listening, negotiating, initiating new ideas and problem solving in a team). In addition to developing key drama skills to build their craft upon, our primary students will develop key skills in devising. Devising theatre empowers all of our students to contribute and collaborate which in turn produces a rich and rewarding experience for all. Furthermore, our students’ learning and development progresses through improvisations that are based on a theme, action or relationship that is of common interest to all. Through improvisation students develop ideas and are encouraged to take risks in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Timetable

Year 7-8 & Year 9-12

Our teens are provided with the opportunities to investigate and explore the craft of drama in accordance and with relevance to their age group. Our teenagers feel empowered to collaborate alongside their peers and teachers in order to explore the factors which contribute to the building blocks of a play including plot, characters, structure, style and form as well as exploring various settings and staging. Students are encouraged to develop their understanding of narrative, focus and structure whilst attending to the careful planning and consideration of the audience’s perspective. Furthermore, our older students are encouraged and taught to experiment and play with imaginative concepts and to jump into the abyss of the unknown.

Term 1, 2021

Kindy

Term 1 in 2021 will see our Kindy kids explore the world of Superpowers- What is a superpower? Do you need to be a superhero to have one or could it be inside of all us?

 Yrs 1 -12

In term 1, our students will be studying the art of 'Physical Theatre'. Physical Theatre is a type of performance where physical movement is the primary method of storytelling; as opposed to, say, text in a play or music and lyrics in an opera. Also, it may incorporate other techniques such as mime, gesture and modern dance to create performance pieces. Physical Theatre often has little or no dialogue, as the movement is the main focus of the performance. Watch the video to hear Alex explain Physical Theatre!

Term 2, 2021

Kindy

The Big Screen- students will love creating small scenes for the screen as they explore the world of video drama.

 Yrs 1 -12

Term 2 will see our drama students begin the rehearsal process as they collaboratively decide as a class upon a performance piece in which they will be performing in term 3 for our big showcase event.

Term 3, 2021

Kindy

The world of Dr Zeus- Students will explore scenes from some of their favourite Dr Zeus books. Please note- This is our showcase term and our Kindy students will create a short Zeus performance to perform on Showcase day.

 Yrs 1 -12

The world of Rehearsal Fun... mostly! All students will be in rehearsal mode in term 3 as we we put in our final weeks of practice leading up to our big Showcase Performance Day (Date TBC). Students will not only rehearse their production numbers, they will learn all about staging requirements and what it takes to stage a production number. This is an exhilarating term that culminates into a huge amount of pride as our students take to the stage.

Term 4, 2021

Kindy

Festive Fun- With such magic and wonder as we lead into our festive period, students will explore Christmas performances from all over the world and create a special in class performance for everyone to enjoy.

 Yrs 1 -12

Weeks 1-5- Emotional exploration. Students and teachers are put to the test during this term as we host a micro performance each night of class! Students will spend 30mins exploring the depth of a different emotion. They will then spend 20mins of intensive (and fun) rehearsal time in order to put on a 5min performance at the end of each class for their families and friends to enjoy (COVID restrictions permitting). This will be a fast paced and exciting 5 weeks that will definitely be an emotional rollercoaster!
