Hive Drama School

The Hive Drama School is run by Alexandra Hussein and Beth Aubrey, both NIDA trained drama teachers and professional actresses. Alex and Beth are committed to helping students develop the craft of authentic acting through:
  • Ensemble: Work as part of a team to develop a shared creative vision.
  • Creative Voice: Assume a variety of roles in a creative development process to generate new ideas for a live presentation.
  • Spontaneity : Explore stories, ideas and narrative scene work through improvisation.
  • Stage Craft : Consider the elements that contribute to the physical realization of a performance.
  • Performance : Apply acting, voice and movement practice to a short, live presentation.
  • Voice : Introduction to how the voice works, exploration of fundamental vocal performance techniques.
  • Physical Awareness : Practice and apply fundamental movement technique for the actor including alignment, presence and spatial relationships. 

Kindy to Year 1

Explore the world of the weird and wonderful in group collaboration and create characters, scenes, and different worlds!
Work with others to create and accept ideas, develop better listening skills and make new friends in a safe and nurturing environment designed to ignite the imagination. 


Year 2 - 4 & 5 - 6

Explore and Apply theatrical techniques in a variety of contexts and build skills in spontaneity, voice, movement, characterization, improvisation and more.
Work collaboratively and develop performance skills, developing your own technique in performance  craft by understanding your own unique style and build confidence.

Year 7 - 8 & 9 - 11

Learn the fundamental skills of performance craft by creating and exploring real characters and the world in which they live.
Build skills in Voice, Improvisation, character building, script writing and group work Using advanced theatrical techniques as well as learning about the audition process for film, theater and television.

Prepare for your audition or HSC drama exam with the guidance of our NIDA trained drama tutors. 

Drama content 2020

Term 1
Using real scripts written for both stage and screen develop script analysis techniques and performance skills by rehearsing and performing a published scene of your choice.
Learn about the audition process of film and television  by recording script material and watch is back at the end of term in a group showing.
Develop skills in learning lines and how to control nerves in an audition environment.
Engage in activities that develop your ability to communicate with others and perform with confidence.
Term 2
The mask is one of the most ancient forms theatrical disguise and is the symbol (using two masks) often used to represent comedy and tragedy.
Come along and explore the mystery of this timeless theatrical devise and enjoy the luxury of making your very own mask at Hives Art department.
Learn how to create a performance using your mask by exploring body language, spacial awareness, movement and gestures – show your incredible creation at the end of term to friends and family.
Term 3
This Term is designed to give our students the experience of performing on stage in front of a live audience. Each class will decide on what they would like to perform with the intention of showcasing the performance craft skills they have learnt throughout the year. The performance  itself takes places in a large scale auditorium giving our students a unique insight into how to navigate a large stage in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere while focusing on the creative process and performance skills they have developed.
Hive does not showcase large scale productions that focus on performance outcomes, we pride ourselves  on developing  performance craft foundation skills and providing a safe environment to nurture our students creativity through play, respect and guided learning.
Term 4
Experience the unique opportunity to create your very own original story in a collaborative, creative and supportive environment.
This terms implements the skill set of Character work, Improvisation, movement, voice, script writing and more in order to create an untold story with ease and confidence.
