Kindermusik sessions are joyful music classes for children 9 months to 5 years. Playful activities with sound and movement invite little ones to wiggle, bounce, twirl, march, clap, stomp, and sway their way through songs and stories that spark imagination and connection.
Hive Kids Music Room is led by talented singers that are trained in both music and early childhood development. Music classes support growing minds and bodies—encouraging language, coordination, emotional expression, and social skills.

1 Year Olds

One year olds experience the world through movement, sound, sight and connection—and Kindermusik (educational, planned, intentional music) supports their rapidly developing brain.
Join in with group music making, explore the sounds they can make and build curiosity and confidence in action songs and dance.
Take the lead in your child’s development, joining in with group music making. Celebrate your toddler while they experience sounds and energy that builds curiosity and confidence through participation.

2 Year Olds
Music, movement, and magic for your busy toddler!
Kindermusik is the perfect place for your busy 2 year old. Jump, spin, march, clap, sing, and explore rhythm in this action packed musical class.
Your toddler will light up as they bang on big drums, dance with scarves, shake shakers, and bounce with parachutes—all while soaking up language, coordination, and social skills. Best of all, you’ll be right there —singing, laughing, and bonding through music together.

3 Year Olds
Buzzing with imagination
Music and make believe for 3-year-olds. Your child will step into a playful world of imagination, brought to life through music, movement, and storytelling. One week they’ll set sail with cheerful pirates, the next they’re tumbling through a colorful circus, and soon they’ll be riding the rails on a whistling, whooshing train. Each adventure is carefully designed to spark creativity while nurturing essential musical and developmental skills.
It’s joyful, active learning wrapped in imagination—giving your little bee the perfect foundation for a lifelong love of music.
CLASS ACTIVITIES
As your preschooler sings, strums, and dances their way through class, they’ll also be:

👂 Sharpening their listening and pattern recognition through musical games
🎸 Strumming simple chords on the ukulele
🌀 Moving with purpose using hoops, balls, scarves, and parachutes

4-5 Year Olds
The Music Room – where your preschoolers musical journey takes flight
In our 4-5 Year-old program, your child will step into a creative, playful space where music becomes something they don’t just enjoy—but begin to understand, create, and express for themselves. This program is grounded in the renowned Orff and Kodály approaches, which use movement, rhythm, storytelling, and play to make music education both meaningful and developmentally appropriate.
Each class is a dynamic blend of dancing, singing, listening, and instrument play—carefully designed to develop musical skills while nurturing creativity and confidence.
Classes are held in our welcoming Charlestown studio in Newcastle, where every child is supported to grow musically, socially, and creatively.
Classes for 4-5 year olds are independent learning classes to develop confidence.

Can’t Make It to Class?
Life happens—we get it! Just let us know through the Client Portal at least 2 hours before your class, and we’ll send you a makeup token.
Makeup tokens are valid for 2 months and can be used anytime while your enrolment is active.
NB: Your makeup token will appear on your account AFTER the missed classed has finished.

Mel Saunders | Dip. Early Childhood Education
Melissa has a background and qualifications in early childhood teaching and music education...
Melissa has a background and qualifications in early childhood teaching and music education – giving you and your child a complete educational and creative experience. Before joining the Hive, Melissa worked as an Early Childhood Teacher and Director and also as a Voice Teacher and Choir Director. Melissa’s skills extend to the stage as well, where she has many years of experience in writing, directing and producing musicals and dramatic theatre productions.
She’s also a singer and songwriter – you might just see her wowing audiences at live performances in local venues around Newcastle.
Melissa is a proud mum to Natasha and Daniel, who share her passion for beautiful music and performance.
Emily Kingsmill | Bach. Psychology in Education
Emily grew up playing the piano then completed her Psychology in Education...
Emily is a pianist, singer and teacher. She grew up playing the piano then completed her Psychology in Education degree back in England. She qualified as a Primary School teacher, then as an Early Childhood educator here in Australia. She is passionate about children learning through the joy of music and is delighted to be putting both her love of music and education together at Hive.
Her two little boys share her love of music, and together they like to spend time exploring and adventuring outdoors, going to the beach, sailing, crafting, baking, plus singing, dancing and making music!
