The Music Room

The Music Room sessions are joyful music classes for children 9 months to 5 years. Playful activities with sound and movement invite little ones to wiggle, bounce, twirl, march, clap, stomp, and sway their way through songs and stories that spark imagination and connection.

Hive Kids Music Room is led by talented singers that are trained in both music and early childhood development. Music classes support growing minds and bodies—encouraging language, coordination, emotional expression, and social skills.

Babies 9-18 mths

Bond, move and explore with your little one

Our Baby Music class surrounds your curious, active bub with beautiful musical sounds and playful rhythms, led by a musically talented early childhood educator. Designed for little ones who love to bounce, and explore sound, the program intentionally uses creative repetition to build strong pathways in the brain and nurture your child’s developing musical ear.

Class at a glance: 45 min of structured musical activities including songs, rhymes, dance, instrument play. Repetition built into the program builds speech and language skills, creates rich opportunities to participate and lays the foundations for early musicianship.

Toddlers 1.5 – 2.5 yrs

Music, movement, and magic for your busy toddler!

The Music Room is the perfect place for your busy toddler. Jump, spin, march, clap, sing, and explore rhythm in this action packed musical class.

Your child will light up as they bang on big drums, dance with scarves, shake shakers, and bounce with parachutes—all while soaking up language, coordination, and social skills. Best of all, you’ll be right there —singing, laughing, and bonding through music together.

Class at a glance: 45 min of structured musical activities including action songs, rhymes, dance, instrument play. The balance of repetition vs. new activities helps toddlers begin to sing and to join in more meaningfully as they recognize the songs each week.

Preschoolers 2.5 – 3.5 yrs

Buzzing with imagination

Meet your child’s emerging imagination right where it’s at with musical learning that takes them on a journey of discovery. From singing to dancing to beating rhythmic patterns on drums, and from swimming with dolphins to waddling with penguins, this exciting class keeps your child moving and learning from start to finish. Each term brings two themed learning programs filled with a balance of repetition for deeper learning, and new activites for discovery.

It’s joyful, active learning wrapped in imagination—giving your little bee the perfect foundation for a lifelong love of music.

Class at a glance: 45 min of structured musical activities including songs for developing the voice, rhythmic percussion play, pattern based dance, all building strong skills in language, math and music.

 

CLASS ACTIVITIES

As your preschooler sings, plays, and dances their way through class, they’ll also be:
🎶 Warming up their singing voice with the help of our talented vocalists
👂 Sharpening their listening and pattern recognition through musical games
🌀 Moving with purpose using hoops, balls, scarves, and parachutes
🥁 Learning to feel and play rhythm on drums and percussion instruments

Young Musicians 3.5-5 yrs

Designed to match your preschoolers hunger for learning, this small group class is focused on making music as an ensemble, learning to play melodies, and chords on xylophone, recorder and ukuelele. We also introduce pre-reading and writing of musical notation, laying a strong foundation for learning the piano or other instrument. Strong musical skills are formed in the early years through repeated musical learning experiences.

Each class is thoughtfully structured to nurture early learning in areas such as:

  • Voice: pitch matching to sing in tune
  • Rhythm: Playing, reading & writing note values
  • Form & Pattern: hearing and responding to musical patterns
  • Emotions: feeling & responding to the emotion in the music

  • Social: collaborating with peers to create group music

  • Fine motor: Playing instruments in a more structured way builds finger strength and hand-eye coordination

  • Creativity: creating music & contributing ideas to the group

This class is taught in a small group of 8 children with one teacher. Parents drop are invited in to watch an informal performance twice per term – keeping you connected with your child’s learning. 

Need help with settling your child in for their first lesson? Simply email us when you enrol and we will plan to have extra staff available to help.

Class format: 45 min class. Children are dropped off for this class.

 

CLASS ACTIVITIES

 Makeup Classes

Can’t Make It to Class?
Life happens—we get it! Just let us know through the Client Portal at least 2 hours before your class, and we’ll send you a makeup token.

Maximum of 2 makeups per term are offered in Bee-school and ONLY where availability exists. we do not overbook our premium learning sessions under any circumstances.

Makeup tokens are valid for 4 months and can be used anytime while your enrolment is active.

NB: Your makeup token will appear on your account AFTER the missed classed has finished.

Melissa, early childhood educator and experienced voice and choir director
Melissa has a background and qualifications in early childhood teaching and music education...

Melissa has a background and qualifications in early childhood teaching and music education – giving you and your child a complete educational and creative experience. Before joining the Hive, Melissa worked as an Early Childhood Teacher and Director and also as a Voice Teacher and Choir Director. Melissa’s skills extend to the stage as well, where she has many years of experience in writing, directing and producing musicals and dramatic theatre productions.

She’s also a singer and songwriter – you might just see her wowing audiences at live performances in local venues around Newcastle.

Melissa is a proud mum to Natasha and Daniel, who share her passion for beautiful music and performance.

Emily, educational psychologist and early childhood educator passionate about music-based learning
Emily grew up playing the piano then completed her Psychology in Education...

Emily is a pianist, singer and teacher. She grew up playing the piano then completed her Psychology in Education degree back in England. She qualified as a Primary School teacher, then as an Early Childhood educator here in Australia. She is passionate about children learning through the joy of music and is delighted to be putting both her love of music and education together at Hive.

Her two little boys share her love of music, and together they like to spend time exploring and adventuring outdoors, going to the beach, sailing, crafting, baking, plus singing, dancing and making music!
