Two Week Satisfaction Guarantee With All New Term Enrolments

The Music Room offers joyful, intentional music classes for children 9 months to 5 years. Every session is led by talented singers and musicians who are also trained in early childhood development — so your child isn’t only having fun with music, they’re building real language, coordination, emotional, social, and of course musical skills through it.

Explore the age group below that fits your child, and discover what a session looks like at each stage.

Babies 9-18 mths

Bond, move and explore with your little one

Our Baby Music class surrounds your curious, active bub with beautiful musical sounds and playful rhythms, led by a musically talented early childhood educator. Designed for little ones who love to bounce, and explore sound, the program intentionally uses creative repetition to build strong pathways in the brain and nurture your child’s developing musical ear.

Why it matters: Every session is designed to build your baby’s brain through musical repetition — strengthening the neural pathways behind language, memory, and early musicianship, one familiar song at a time.

The format: 45 minutes of songs, rhymes, dance, and instrument play, built around intentional repetition so your baby can participate more meaningfully, week after week.

Toddlers 1.5 – 2.5 yrs

Music, movement, and magic for your busy toddler!

The Music Room is the perfect place for your busy toddler. Jump, spin, march, clap, sing, and explore rhythm in this action packed musical class.

Your child will light up as they bang on big drums, dance with scarves, shake shakers, and bounce with parachutes—all while soaking up language, coordination, and social skills. Best of all, you’ll be right there —singing, laughing, and bonding through music together.

Why it matters: As your toddler bangs, dances, and sings their way through class, they’re quietly building language, coordination, and social skills — all while making joyful memories with you.

The format: 45 minutes of action songs, rhymes, dance, and instrument play, balancing familiar favourites with new activities so your toddler can join in with growing confidence each week.

Preschoolers 2.5 – 3.5 yrs

Buzzing with imagination

Meet your child’s emerging imagination right where it’s at with musical learning that takes them on a journey of discovery. From singing to dancing to beating rhythmic patterns on drums, and from swimming with dolphins to waddling with penguins, this exciting class keeps your child moving and learning from start to finish. Each term brings two themed learning programs filled with a balance of repetition for deeper learning, and new activites for discovery.

It’s joyful, active learning wrapped in imagination—giving your little bee the perfect foundation for a lifelong love of music.

Why it matters: Through singing, dancing, and rhythmic play, your child builds real skills in language, maths, and music — all wrapped in the kind of imaginative, story-driven learning that keeps them moving and engaged from start to finish.

The format: 45 minutes of structured musical activities including voice-development songs, rhythmic percussion play, and pattern-based dance, with two themed learning programs each term balancing familiar repetition with new discovery.

Young Musicians 3.5-5 yrs

Designed to match your preschoolers hunger for learning, this small group class is focused on making music as an ensemble, learning to play melodies, and chords on xylophone, recorder and ukuelele. We also introduce pre-reading and writing of musical notation, laying a strong foundation for learning the piano or other instrument. Strong musical skills are formed in the early years through repeated musical learning experiences.

Each class is thoughtfully structured to nurture early learning in areas such as:

  • Voice: pitch matching to sing in tune
  • Rhythm: Playing, reading & writing note values
  • Form & Pattern: hearing and responding to musical patterns
  • Emotions: feeling & responding to the emotion in the music

  • Social: collaborating with peers to create group music

  • Fine motor: Playing instruments in a more structured way builds finger strength and hand-eye coordination

  • Creativity: creating music & contributing ideas to the group

Why it matters: This is where real musicianship begins — your child learns to play melodies and chords as part of an ensemble, while building the pre-reading and notation skills that lay the groundwork for learning piano or another instrument down the track.

The format: 45 minutes in a small group of just 8 children with one teacher, playing xylophone, recorder, and ukulele, with structured focus on voice, rhythm, pattern, fine motor skill, and creative contribution. Children are dropped off for this class, with parents invited in twice per term to watch an informal performance.

Meet the teachers

Our Music Room programs are built on years of specialist early childhood development and music education – refined, tested, and continually improved by Hive’s team of qualified educators.

Leading our Music programs today are Melissa Saunders and Emily Kingsmill, both qualified Early Childhood Educators with backgrounds in professional music.

Melissa Saunders is an Early Childhood Educator with 10 years’ experience in the sector, followed by 12 years experience at Hive Kids. Melissa holds ANZCA qualifications in Modern Singing and brings a professional musician’s ear to every class she designs. She has been part of the Hive team since training directly under founder Vanessa Lynch, and her belief in family as the foundation of a child’s growth shapes every session she leads.

Emily Kingsmill holds a Bachelor of Psychology in Education and trained as a Primary School teacher before qualifying as an Early Childhood Educator in Australia. A lifelong pianist and singer, Emily brings together her two passions – music and education – in every class, driven by a belief that children learn best through the joy of music.

What this means for your family: whether Melissa, Emily, or another qualified educator is teaching your class, the program itself – the structure, the research, the intentional learning design – stays consistent. You’re not just booking a class with a great teacher. You’re enrolling in a program built to last through every stage of your child’s creative development.
